007 x 23

Chris Cornell got theme duty for Casino Royale, and he avoids the Shirley Bassey trap for the most part. The best Bond theme, aside from the original, remains Madonna's, and one of the oddest, Satchmo's, is paired with the series' best film. It's always a crapshoot, but here are the Bond themes from first to last, for better or worse:

Dr. No/Kingston Calypso

Matt Monroe - "From Russia With Love"

Shirley Bassey - "Goldfinger"

Tom Jones - "Thunderball"

Nancy Sinatra - "You Only Live Twice"

Louis Armstrong - "We Have All the Time in the World"

Shirley Bassey - "Diamonds Are Forever"

Wings - "Live and Let Die"

Lulu - "The Man With the Golden Gun"

Carly Simon - "Nobody Does It Better"

Shirley Bassey - "Moonraker"

Sheena Easton - "For Your Eyes Only"

Rita Coolidge - "All Time High"

Lani Hall - "Never Say Never Again"

Duran Duran - "A View to a Kill"

A-ha - "The Living Daylights"

Gladys Knight - "Licence to Kill

Tina Turner - "GoldenEye"

Sheryl Crow - "Tomorrow Never Dies"

Garbage - "The World Is Not Enough"

Madonna - "Die Another Day"

Chris Cornell - "You Know My Name"

I do think it's the odd man out among all the theme songs. It's got none of the bombastic reverb and explosive vocals. It's just a pleasant little Louis Armstrong ballad.

Nothing against the song at all. I like it, and I love the film. I just think it's clearly the oddest of all the themes.

Glad everyone's liking this post so much!

First of all great idea for this post. Everything you need his here.
Secondly it is really not fair to call "we have all the time in the world" a theme song from OHMSS when it is not in the beginning of the movie. The rather large music of John Barry titled OHMSS is the official themesong.
Thirdly you really can't term Madonna's pitifull attempt of a theme song the best of all the Bong songs.
The new one is ten times better.

The original and the only - no 'here-today-gone-tomorrow' transitory celebs: the real deal (who the bloody hell are 'A-Ha exactly? Alan Partridge?!). Showing my age of course Shirley B and Diamonds is of course a belter as well.....

And Connery the definitive, though I've not seen Daniel Craig's version yet - though I hope to before I go back to the UK for Christmas

Found your post from RadioSilence's blog. Thanks for the tunes. Personally, I think Madonna's entry is horrible, but I do like Duran Duran's.

You, Sir, in today's flood or information repetition, possess the special and rare ability to see in plain sight unique details others miss. Your useful but simple web page is a proof of that. Well done, I say, and thank you for the Bond movie song themes listing. When possible again, please kindly add the year of each movie's release. Thank you.

Louis Armstrong's contribution to OHMSS (one of his last recordings) was excellent, with all those odd twists of melody one expects of a Bond title theme, but it is more a 'love theme', utilised to underscore a plot development. The OHMSS theme itself is instrumental, and has a nicely cool fuzz guitar part. There are a large number of good themes to lame movies (DAF, AVTAK, YOLT, Thunderball, LALD etc.), but personally Chris Cornell's effort lacks a strong enough melody. Great movie, though.
