"Rarely heard flutist..."

this is a rather bizarre statement. flute majors are always required to perform some solo flute piece. i guess she must mean, most flutists never do a completely solo, unaccompanied recital. and that's true, because most people don't want to hear only flute for 1.5 hours (not even me, and i'm a flutist!), and most flutists can't really entertain for that long. it's one thing to play a recital; it's another to really put on a show. the only one i know of is robert dick. i've seen him do an entirely solo show, no electronics, just him. he can rock it.

A flutist(e) friend of mine is doing an amazing program of solo flute music of Salvatore Sciarrino. I wish I could attend, but if anyone is in the Strassbourg area later this month check out the concert.
